Someone claiming to be Grey Munford, Director of Corporate Communications of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures contacted my employer about my posting a picture of a cabin in my local park on this blog. He claims I am violating their copyright. I think Mr. Munford needs to check with MGM’s lawyers concerning what copyright entails. I took this picture in a public park while standing on the trail where I was supposed to walk as designated by the detour signs. As the taker of the picture I hold copyright to this photo and if Mr. Munford would like to purchase rights to use it he can contact me by leaving a comment on this blog just like everyone else.
I can see why MGM is upset because Christopher Frankonis aka “The One True b!X” has used my picture to set up a fake Cabin in the Woods website. It’s obviously fooled a few people as message boards attest. I see that Chris sells his own photos on Etsy so I’m sure he understands about copyright…
P.S. Here is what Canadian law says about the copyright of photographs: “Where the author is a natural person, the term of protection is the remainder of the calendar year in which the author dies, and for 50 years following the end of the calendar year.”
UPDATE May 8. It looks like MGM took ownership of the above mentioned “Cabin” domain on May 4 and the poster using my picture is no longer available there. I wonder what that cost them…
Hilarious!!!
