The one and only Holy Spirit

As most Christians are aware, God is conceived of as a Trinity comprised of three Persons, God the Father, Jesus the Son, and Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God. However we would never refer to God the Father as “the God” or the Son as “the Jesus (Christ)” so why do we almost always refer to the Spirit as “the Holy Spirit.” He is a person just as are the other two members of the Trinity. For this reason I have been referring to him as “Holy Spirit” since this was pointed out to me during a course in Winter 1995. I cannot remember the professor’s name, just that he was from Atlantic Canada and was filling in for a year as the regular professor. was on sabbatical. I think it is a great idea to refer to Holy Spirit without using the article.
