Free Online Access for Six Oxford Journals

Oxford Journals is offering free access to six 1996 to current religious journals until Dec 12. The six journals are:

Journal of the American Academy of Religion,
Journal of Islamic Studies,
Journal of Semitic Studies,
Literature and Theology,
Journal of Theological Studies,
Modern Judaism.

This is somewhat of a mixed bag but I suppose they are offering “something for everyone” in the hopes of attracting more interest. Instructions for signing up are available here. When you register it asks for your position and organization type. Positions available are librarian, researcher, lecturer, department head, professor, manager, student, practioner, teacher, consultant, retired, and other. Organizations run the gamut from academic to armed forces to medical. It seems to me that they seriously failed to consider that people interested in religious journals are probably priests/rabbis/imams at temples, churches, and mosques. They also spelled Judaism wrong in the list of journals so I’m not sure how much confidence we can have in them 🙂
