Epistles of Thomas

God helps those who help themselves?

This most famous Bible verse that isn’t was brought to mind recently as I was reading through Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost for His Highest. The entry for February 19 is on drudgery and he opens with these words:

We have to take the first step as though there were no God. It is no use to wait for God to help us, He will not; but immediately we arise we find He is there.

Perhaps this is the reason that so many are convinced that somewhere out there is a Bible translation that tells us that God helps those who help themselves. Either way this is the closest I have come to finding evidence for it.
