Perez Hilton asked a contestant at the Miss America pageant for her views on gay marriage and could not accept* Carrie Prejean’s answer of “I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.” Afterward, Hilton told ABC News: “She lost it because of that question. She was definitely the front-runner before that.” It’s amazing that Hilton had the nerve to call her “brainless.” He asked this question with the obvious intent of having his views proclaimed on national television by the winning contestant and when she left him covered in egg he lost it.
Being California, full of fruit and nut trees, her answer did not go over well with the establishment.
Keith Lewis, the Executive Director of Miss California USA/Teen USA made the following comment:
As co-executive director of Miss CA USA and one of the leaders of the Miss CA family, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss CA USA 2009 believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman. Although I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit, I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone. Religious beliefs have no place in politics in the Miss CA family.
Miss California never mentioned religion in her answer and given that the majority of California’s population voted to NOT ALLOW gay marriage I think it is Mr. Lewis who is out of line.
Apparently Prejean’s sister is a “gay right activist” but has nothing against the answer. Prejean comments, “She has her own views. She debates with my dad all the time about it. That’s what’s so great about being an American – we’re able to have our own opinions.” No, actually Carrie, you’re not~ Didn’t you hear what Mr. Lewis and Mr. Hilton said? You are only allowed to have their view on this matter!
*By “could not accept,” I mean he had a cow.
