Anglican church property trial begins Monday

John Stackhouse has a blog post about the upcoming trial to determine the ownership of Anglican church property. Those churches that have taken themselves out from under the leadership of Michael Ingham have been threatened with having their church buildings taken away from them. Despite the fact that Ingham has removed himself from the Anglican tradition he is still the bishop and holds power within the church hierarchy. Unfortunately, this is what happens when you have a church leadership completely out of touch with biblical teaching.

The official statement regarding the issue from Ingham concludes: “Our goal in the Anglican Church in the Greater Vancouver area is to be a church that accommodates differences.” I’m not sure when they crossed the line from “accommodating differences” to blessing sinful behaviour but obviously they have placed themselves outside the body of Christ. I wonder if they also provide ceremonies of blessing for murderers, slave traders, liars and perjurers (1 Tim 1:9-10).

The decision in this case will effect other denominations as well because denominational ownership of property is common. It ensures that a local body does not become heretical and leave the body of Christ. The difficulty, as in this case, arises when the denomination itself promotes sin and local bodies remain faithful to Christ. Let’s pray that God’s will is done on earth as it is in heaven and that Michael Ingham repents and is restored to the catholic body of Christ.
