The books of Chronicles begin with a record of important figures from Adam to Abraham. The first chapter covers those from Adam to Noah and his sons in the first four verses and then expands to cover the sons’ progeny in greater detail. Chapter two begins with the twelve sons of Israel who are listed as Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher (2:1f). Chapter three begins with the sons of David and quickly moves into the kings of Judah and then the royal line after the exile.
