April is Daffodil Month for the Canadian Cancer Society

As some of you know this is Daffodil month during which the Canadian Cancer Society promotes itself by volunteers selling daffodil pins to raise funds and awareness.

In addition, I would like to make mention of a way that everyone can help cancer research on a daily basis. You can contribute your computer’s processing power to cancer research through distributed computing. I am a member of the World Community Grid which currently has two cancer projects underway. One is called Help Fight Childhood Cancer and the other is Help Conquer Cancer. You just install a small piece of software on your computer and then it processes away in the background while you go about your business. If you have a modern computer with 3Gb or more of RAM you probably will not even notice it’s there unless you do very processor intensive tasks on a regular basis. It will use a little more electricity but only about $10 per year.
